Methodology
The Multipolitan Passport Index measures global passport mobility beyond the conventional count of visa-free destinations. It assesses both the breadth of access a passport provides and the development and growth profile of the destinations it opens.
Mobility data is powered by INREX, Multipolitan's immigration intelligence system, which monitors government sources for changes in visa and immigration rules. Development, economic, demographic, digital infrastructure, and financial inclusion indicators are drawn from UNDP and World Bank datasets.
The premise is simple: not all access is equal.
Accessible destinations are scored according to their UNDP Human Development Index classification. Points are aggregated across all accessible destinations.
Accessible destinations are assessed across four indicators. Each is normalised to a 0–100 scale; the weighted composite is assigned to one of four tiers, contributing between 0 and 3 points per destination.
Total Passport Score = Quality Score + Growth Potential Score
Each accessible destination can contribute up to six points, combining its current development profile with indicators of future potential. The result is a dynamic measure of how much mobility a passport provides and the quality of the access it creates.
